Benefits of Pulsed-Light Hair Removal

Long-Lasting Results
Pulsed-light systems work by emitting pulses of intense lamp¬light into the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat then loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for growing new hair.
The Palomar Pulsed Light Systems feature multiple handpieces for a variety of treatment options, such as permanent hair reduction on all skin types. Ask your treatment provider what results you can expect.

Comfortable Hair Management

Traditional waxing and threading treatments, which essentially rip the hair from the skin, can be quite painful. Most people, however, find Palomar Pulsed Light treatments to be significantly more comfortable. In addition, since the pulses of light penetrate the skin, you do not need to let your hair grow out before you are treated. With pulsed light treatments, you can remain virtually hair-free all the time!

Super-Fast Treatments

Thanks to its advanced, technology, Palomar's Pulsed Light Systems work several times faster than other light-based hair removal systems. A woman's legs or a man's back can be treated in under thirty minutes, and smaller areas - such as the underarms, upper lip or bikini line - can be treated in even less time!

Q. What Body Areas Can I Get Treated?
A. Any area, except around the eyes. The underarms, legs, back, bikini line, face, neck, etc., can all be treated... fast!

Q. What Are the Treatment Sessions Like?
A. Quick and easy! After your initial preparation, your treat¬ment provider will move a wand-like hand-piece over your skin. The handpiece emits a light that disables the hair follicles. Most people perceive the light as a gentle "snapping" sensation. Once this is completed, the treat¬ment provider will wipe away any loose hair from your skin, and you're ready to go.

Q. What Should Most People Expect After Treatment?
A. Most people experience some mild redness and tenderness in the treated area shortly after treatment. This does not interfere with normal activities and usually subsides within a day. In some cases, the redness may last longer, but will still be mild and temporary. Your treat¬ment provider will explain other, less likely side effects to you.

Q. What Is the Difference Between Laser and Pulsed-Light Treatments?

A. Pulsed-light systems and lasers are very similar and remove hair in basically the same way. However, the Palomar Pulsed Light Systems use a new technology that removes hair up to ten times faster than lasers.
As a result, pulsed light treatments can fit even the busiest person's schedule.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does Palomar Pulsed Light work? (Hair Removal)
Palomar Systems use specialized handpieces which filter light from different parts of the spectrum. Each band of the spectrum has a wavelength that is ideal for different treatments such as hair reduction, sun spot removal and acne treatment.

The Palomar hair removal handpieces emit pulses of light into the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat then loosens the hair and diables the cells responsible for growing new hair.

How is Palomar Pulsed Light different from a laser?
Pulsed light systems and lasers are very similar, but Palomar Pulsed Light Systems use a much larger treatment window than most lasers. This spreads light over a wider area of skin and allows faster coverage of the skin and quicker treatments as a result.

What body areas can I get treated?
Any area, except around the eyes. The upper lip, face, neck, underarms, bikni line, legs, chest and back can all be treated.

What are Palomar treatments like?
Your treatment provider will move the handpiece over your skin, pulsing it all the while. Each pulse will send a beam of light through your skin. A flashing light, an audible tone, and a mild sensation on the skin will tell you when the handpiece is being pulsed.

The Pulsed Light Alternative
Palomar Pulsed Light Systems offer a lasting solution for unwanted hair. Permanent: Concentrated pulses of light loosen the hair and disable the cells responsible for new hair growth.

What should I expect after treatment?

• Immediately after treatment, you can expect a mild sunburn-like sensation, possibly accompanied by some minor swelling. This usually lasts 2-24 hours, and can be soothed with cold gel or ice packs.

• The treated hair will continue to appear for 7-30 days post-treatment. This is not new hair growth, but the treated hairsbeing expelled from the skin.

• At any given time, some fo your hair is not in a phase ofactive growth. Therefore you will need more than one treatment to affect the growth of all your unwanted hair.

• Typically, several treatments will be necessary to achieve permanent hair reduction.

OTHER PALOMAR TREATMENTS
Your physician has chosen a Palomar Pulsed Light System because it offers the most versatile, effective, and comfortable aesthetic treatments available. In addition to hair removal, Palomar Systems offer treatments for wrinkle reduction, leg veins, sun damage, acne, rosacea, age spots, and spider veins.

PERMANENT HAIR REDUCTION
THROUGH PULSED LIGHT

The Old Solutions
If you live with unwanted hair, you've probably tried some of the typical solutions, such as shaving, waxing, and electrolysis. If so, you've also found that:
• Shaving is a daily nuisance.
Waxing is painful and only a short-term solution.
• Electrolysis is effective, but since it only treats one
hair follicle at a time, it's not practical for large
areas and is extremely time-consuming.
The Pulsed Light Alternative

Palomar Pulsed Light Systems offer a lasting solution for unwanted hair.
• Permanent: Concentrated pulses of light loosen
the hair and disable the cells responsible for new
hair growth.
• Fast: Small areas, such as the underarms or upper
lip, can be treated in 10 minutes or less, and even
large areas, like the back or legs, can be treated in
under a half hour.
• Comfortable: Various cooling methods keep the
light pulses mild and skin-safe, allowing for
more comfortable treatments than electrolysis
and waxing.

Convenient: Unlike waxing, there is no need to let hair grow out between treatments. You can remain hair free all the time.
Palomar StarLux'", MediLux'" and EsteLux*' Pulsed Light Systems offer hair removal treatments.

Laser hair removal

Laser hair removal has become a popular choice for removing unwanted hair. Many consumers who are considering laser hair removal for permanent hair reduction have difficulty finding a comprehensive guidebook to research the information they need to make informed hair removal choices. Hair removal technology can be complicated, and it is sometimes difficult to evaluate the questions you may have. Here are the answers.

Laser hair removal works by sending a beam of laser light to a group of hair follicles with enough power to disable or destroy the root, but not enough power to harm the surrounding skin. This process is called selective photothermolysis. It is selective because it targets only the hair and not the skin. Photo means light and thermolysis means destroying with heat. The surrounding skin is usually cooled. Some methods include a gel, a spray, or a cooling tip.

The Laser beam finds the hair follicles by targeting the substance that gives skin and hair dark color - melanin. Therefore, the ideal candidate for laser has dark hair and light skin. The laser will not work on people with red, white, gray or true blond hair. The hot laser light will also be attracted to the melanin in the skin, so people with suntans, or dark skin types are at more of a risk for discoloration of pigment and other side effects.

Hair Removal by Laser is NOT ELECTROLYSIS. Electrolysis is a method of removing individual hairs one-at-a-time by directing an electric current into each hair follicle. This is the high tech/modern day method of destroying massive amounts of hair follicles with a simple trigger pull.

Laser only destroys hair in its active growth phase, the anagen phase. This phase lasts several years, and up to 85% of our hair is in that phase at any given time. The good thing is that during this phase, the hair has an abundance of melanin and the hair follicle is easily targeted.

How does the Estelux system work?

Pulsed-light systems work by emitting pulses of intense lamplight into the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat then loosens the hair and disables the follicular cells responsible for growing new hair.

What’s the difference between laser and pulsed-light treatments?

While both work in basically the same manner to remove hair, the Pulsed-Light System uses a newer technology that allows it to remove hair up to 10 times faster than lasers.

Pulsed-Light Hair Removal

Pulsed-light is similar to a laser in that it uses an intense beam of light. However, the Pulsed-light system employs a new technology that removes hair up to ten times faster than lasers.

Pulsed-light has the flexibility to provide varied hair removal treatments on different types of skin and hair. The system removes unwanted hair by delivering a pulse of intense light directly into the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat then loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for growing new hair.

Traditional waxing and threading treatments, which essentially rip the hair from the skin, can be quite painful. Our Pulsed Light treatments are significantly more comfortable. In addition, since the pulses of light penetrate the skin, you do not need to let your hair grow out before you are treated.
